A handy update!

We’re pleased to announce availability of version 1.1 of Penultimate, which features the result of recent work we’ve done on “wrist protection”, or trying to understand the difference between when a touch on the surface should be used for ink, and when it’s just your wrist or knuckles or palm touching or resting on the glass.

It’s taken us a little while to get this feature incorporated into the app, because it’s a difficult thing to do well. When the whole notebook surface is “touchable” for writing, telling the difference between an intentional touch and an unintentional one can be quite hard. So we guess; we’ve tried to be clever. We assume—if you enable the mode, which is optional—that you’re writing on the page from the top down to the bottom. We assume that you’re holding your wrist in a traditional writing position (sorry, hook-gripped lefties).

Give it a spin by enabling the mode in the new Settings menu (touch the gear icon). Let us know (at contact@cocoabox.com) how it works (or doesn’t) for you! We believe this is an important feature for note-takers, especially for those who are using a stylus, and we’ll be tuning it over time. If it doesn’t work for your writing style, you can turn it off, or of course, you can always not touch the glass with your wrist. :)

This update also contains a number of bug fixes (mostly for some rarely-seen crashes) and some minor usability improvements.

(Been waiting for just such a feature before grabbing Penultimate? Get it here.)
